On 26 September 2023, College of Chemistry in Beijing University of Chemical Technology invited Professor Nicolas Alonso-Vante from University of Poitiers, France, to give a lecture on "Discussion of Factors Affecting the Electrochemical Activity of Elemental Hydrogen" to the junior undergraduate students, which was presided over by Professor Yongjun Feng, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry.
This presentation focused on the design of catalytic materials for hydrogen production by electrocatalysis (EC) and photoelectrocatalysis (PEC) and the conformational effects between electrocatalytic properties and interfacial structures. Firstly, Prof. Nicolas Alonso-Vante gave a brief introduction to electrochemistry and the world demand and growth of hydrogen. After that, he introduced the classification and development of grey, blue, and green hydrogen, and pointed out that although green hydrogen is still costly and has many choke points, it is a truly clean energy source as it eliminates carbon emissions from the source. Finally, he recommended his monographs on electrocatalysis for interested students to further discuss and study.
After the academic presentation, Prof. Yongjun Feng gave detailed answers to the students' concerns and expressed his gratitude to Prof. Nicolas Alonso-Vante once again.
