The department of analytical chemistry was founded in 2008. The predecessor of analytical chemistry is industrial analyzing major, which belongs to the department of applied chemistry. After the establishment of the College of Science in 2000, it became the secondary discipline direction of the primary level of chemistry discipline of the faculty. In 2005, the primary level of chemistry was authorized to confer doctor’s degree of first-level discipline.

Having extensive coverage is the most typical trait of analytical chemistry, which is the platform discipline and intersection of many other disciplines. Analytical chemistry is based on manufacture requirements and life demands. It constantly proposes perfects and enriches the basic theory of analytical chemistry in the process of discipline construction, selection of a subject, project approval and research. At the same time, it pays attention to the long- and Mid-Term development plan of Beijing and our country, social needs and the development trend of international analytical chemistry, environmental monitoring and biomedical detection and metrology, which contribute a lot to the academic innovation. With untiring efforts of years, we have achieved fruitful innovations and developments of plant separation and resource analysis, environmental analysis and assessment, chemical metering technology and food security analysis, and nanostructure and bioanalysis, which make series of achievements.

The discipline of analytical chemistry has formed a teaching and research team with rational construction and high quality. Among all the staff members, we have 6 full professors, 7 doctoral supervisors, and 1 national master teacher. All of the professors in our department have doctor’s degrees. The professors below 45 years of age have become the main body of academic leaders. Our department takes on 28 scientific research projects at or above the provincial level with 14.79 million funds. In recent 5 years,we have published more than 200 papers on Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. Anal. Chem.TrAC-Trends in Anal. Chem.Nano Lett.Adv. Mater.Chem-Eur. Jand Chem. Commun.. Correlative papers’ have been cited more than 2700 times. We applied 25 inventive patents, and 12 of them were authorized. Being well-known around the world, we keep academic exchange and scientific and technological cooperation with internationally famous universities and institutions such as the University of California, Los Angeles, United States (UCLA), National Institutes of Health (US NIH), Brunel University and Tokyo University of Science. Among the courses that our department undertakes, Complex Material Analysis is the National Essential Course, and Instrumental Analysis is both the National Essential Course and the National Bilingual Language Model Teaching Course. Since 2000, the discipline has published 10 teaching materials, participated in publishing 1 translation book, and awarded 3 the second state-level prize, 5 the first municipal-level prize and 2 second municipal-level prize of “Outstanding Achievements in Education.”

Compared with similar subjects in the country, our discipline has distinctive features of research direction, the quality of the scientific research and the construction pattern of the results, which was strongly encouraged and supported by our university. Our discipline will have positive impacts on the development of effective utilization of plant resources, the rapid diagnosis of cancer and serious disease, food safety, environmental monitoring, culture, education and scientific research career.
