Organic chemistry is a branch of chemistry, which mainly studies the source, preparation, structure, property and application of organic compounds that contain carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. Studying and solving the basic science issues on pharmacy, material, life, health, information and environment are the important research content of organic chemistry discipline.
The organic chemistry discipline of BUCT had the right to grant master’s degree in 2003, had been authorized to confer doctorates and successfully applied the Municipal Key Discipline of Beijing in 2010. The organic chemistry department of College of Science of BUCT undertakes the constructing assignment of organic chemistry discipline. Our department has 11 faculty and staff members, including 4 full professors, 6 associate professors and 4 doctoral supervisors. Among our department members, all of them have doctorates, and 1 professor was awarded the Municipal Colleges and Universities Teaching Masters Award.
The department of organic chemistry not only takes the responsibility of basic course teaching of Organic Chemistry in the College of Science but the undergraduates in the whole university, and the basic specialty course of Intermediate Organic Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Organic Spectral Analysis, Stereochemistry, Heterocyclic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Higher Professional Organic Experiment. Besides, our department is responsible for the graduate course teaching work of Advanced Organic Chemistry, Higher Organic Synthetic Chemistry, Higher Organic Reaction Mechanism and Organic Photochemistry, and guiding graduate student to do the scientific research and undergraduate design. The professors of the department of organic chemistry devote to education and educational reform and participate in many teaching reform projects hold by nation, province and university. Many of their teaching research results won lots of award from our university and municipal even state government. The Organic Chemistrywas designated the national top quality course, the resource sharing course and the bilingual demonstration course.
The organic chemistry discipline of BUCT has formed four characteristic research areas, including “organic synthesis methodology”, “organic functional material chemistry”, “organic and drug intermediates synthesis chemistry” and “academic and physical organic chemistry”. The professors in our department take on many Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects, provincial scientific research projects and horizontal scientific research items. They have achieved abundant research results in developing new organic synthesis methodology, the synthesis of important drugs and their intermediates, research and development of drugs, the design and fabrication of new catalyst, and the preparation and application of organic materials. They published lots of scientific and academic papers in internationally famous journals, such like J. Am. Chem. Soc., Org. Lett., Chem. Commun., J. Org. Chem and Org. Biomol. Chem. They have applied for and won international and national invention patents, whose achievements were applied to pharmaceutical production, which acquired certain economic and social benefits.
